Never Go Back by Lee ChildMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
Enjoyable.
My progression through the story was a little tainted since I had already seen the movie based on this one. But as always, the books plot differs from the movie in quite a few ways, so I wouldn't say the movie served as a "spoiler."
So Reacher FINALLY makes it to Virginia, to meet the women we've been hearing about for like 5 books now haha. I liked her voice, was really all he ever said about her. Returning to his old stomping grounds, the headquarters of the 110th MP, and the woman he's there to meet is sort of the new him, as she holds his old position of commanding the 110th. To his surprise on arrival, the woman has been relieved of duty, arrested and refuses to see Reacher. Along with that, Jack is given an arsenal of bad news that he is wanted for "murder" as a result of head trauma he caused some 16 years ago, and (drumroll) he has a daughter, with a mother seeking support $$.
To no surprise, Reacher smells a set-up right from the start and begins investigating. We see no shortage of scuffles, diner food and coffee as always. Nothing really jumped out at me, but that's about the norm for this series, good reads but no "wow" moments. The highlight was meeting the girl he's been talking about for so many books, and according to him was "worth the wait."
Likes: Reacher's return to 110th, Turner-She seems like a great match for Reacher but we all know he's a stick and move kinda guy haha.
Dislikes: Reality-Reacher stories usually have a bit of "yeah right" factor, and for this one its the prison break (don't worry that's no spoiler.) Ending- Bad guys don't really get justice.
